The PGI Red Tropea Onion has a very long history. 4000 years ago the Phoenicians brought it in Calabria, and nowadays it is grown in a specific and defined area on the Thyrenian Calabrian coast. The unique onion’s gene pool together with the inimitable mix of temperature, sea breeze and rich soil composition determines the onion’s sweetness and crunchiness, which are further emphasized by our sweet and sour.
